Somaliland: National Electoral Commission Submits Election Results to the Supreme Court

Hargeisa, Somaliland – National Electoral Commission (NEC) officially submits preliminary election results to the Supreme Court. Adam Haji Ali, Somaliland’s Chief Justice confirmed to the media that the results have been submitted by NEC and they will announce the court’s final decision within a week.

From the day the results are announced, the opposition parties have 7 days to submit any complaints to the court but nothing has been submitted so far which forces the Electoral Commission to submit the results to the court for the final ruling. According to the Somaliland’s constitution, the court has also 7 days to conclude their findings and announce the final results.

Somalilanders cast their votes on 13th November 2017 to the three political parties in Somaliland namely, Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID which Kulmiye won by 55% of the votes as NEC announced last week. The President-elect, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi said he will focus on governance and fight corruption, he also promised to strengthen ties with UAE and restore historical ties with Britain.
